Monday morning was here, and all the training sessions and team plays we had all done was going to be put into practice, an 8.30am start for the opening ceremony and the first games kicked off and the adrenalin was running thick and fast! The teams had mixed results but everyone gave their best and headed home, looking forward to relax and talk about the games, and what was ahead for the next day. After the evening meal each captain was to address the 115 strong Leeuwin Army and tell them how they had gone for the day , which was met with either a groan for a loss or a big cheer for a win , this was to become a big highlight of each day and a real bonding session for the players, the “Leeuwin Song” song was to be heard quite a few times and was always sung after the game if we had a win.

What a wonderful season it has been in the LNJSA this year, in reflection such a lot of things happened, we have had our first year of very own Soccer Academy, can i congratulate all the players and coaches for their commitment over the year , and it has been quite apparent that the work they have put in , is paying off as the standard of soccer has gone to a higher level. We have also had our first year of Small Sided Games in the six to eight year old age group. Can I congratulate everyone who has embraced this new format of soccer at this level, the response we have received from parents and players has been great , and i am quite positive that this will benefit the players in years to come, next season will see the Small Sided Game concept move into the nine year old age group keeping us in line with the ruling by Football Federation Australia.
Another major decision the committee made this year was to join forces with four other Soccer Associations in the South West to form Football Federation South West, this was done so to give us more of a say in things happening in Soccer in our region, and we are quite positive that this will be very rewarding in the years ahead.

With many of the players playing their last game in this age category, the Bees made a statement through their play just how much their game had developed. With a goal being scored every 1 to 2 minutes of the game, the Joeys were swarmed time and again. The general pattern of play saw the Bees win the ball, control the ball, look for good passing options and set up numerous scoring opportunities.
Once again it was the team oriented play which highlighted their dominance, with best players a field all over the ground.
MR Dynamite 5 def MR Raiders 3
In last week’s Knock-Out Cup draw the Raiders pulled out their local rivals as quarter final opponent – very much to the dismay of the Raiders. In windy and wet conditions, the boys knew that this would be a difficult encounter, and various tactical moves have been discussed in training last week.
The Raiders lined up without defender Kane Duggan. The toss would be crucial, and it went Dynamite’s way. The game highlighted the strong improvements made by Dynamite throughout the season and the resigned closure to the season by the Raiders.
The Raiders in green started well but Dynamite opened the scoring in the 2nd minute after a defensive blunder. Several attempts to break through the well placed Dynamite defence failed, partially due to a lack of team work, partially due to the strong headwind. Dynamite put two more goals in the back of the Raider’s net in the 17th and 19th minute.
Two of the three goals came from corner kicks and one was an own goal. Then Aaron Locke stepped up. His powerful sprints down the right wing opened up the Dynamite’s defence. His pass into the box in the 22nd minute found unmarked Mehdi Balkhi. However the dangerous forward mis-kicked and the ball went wide.
The complete list of winners from the first round of the LNJSA Knock-Out Cup are now in and the subsequent fixtrues confirmed. Good luck to all teams.

MacKillop Strikers 4 def MR Raiders 1
The Raiders went into the last stretch of the season with declining form and health. In addition to that, luck was failing them as well in this last league game of the 2009 season. Four times they hit the woodwork and one penalty was missed.
The game started with a fury. Aaron Locke was on fire and hit the upright post within the first minute of the game. McKillop however bounced back and scored the opener in the 2nd minute when an unmarked striker headed home after a beautifully executed corner kick.
In the 5th minute, Mishka Marzohl’s fierce shot could only be saved by the upright post again.
Then in the 8th minute, strong midfield player Henry Rogers secured the ball after a long kick by keeper Cade Thompson, and he ran the ball through the entire McKillop backline to equal the score. At this stage of this thrilling encounter, it was an end-to-end affaire. Aaron Locke outsprinted his opponent again in the 12th minute only to be denied once more by the crossbar.
Dunsborough Daredevils 4 v Busselton Devils 2
Dunsborough Daredevils have won second place in the Under 11 LNJSA premiership with a skilful and gutsy 4-2 win against Busselton Devils in a fine display of foot ball at Dunsborough Playing Field on Saturday.
The Daredevils who were second by a single point to their Busselton rivals before the game knew a draw would not be enough and they needed a win to secure the runners up position. Rarely the underdog, the Daredevils found extra determination and energy and showed just how good they are when they play as one.
The Devils, who also played a brilliant game never, looked out of it and fought hard all the way, snatching goals through hard won opportunities and passion. They had just as many shots on goal as the Daredevils and equal possession, but the safe hands of Tom Brown denied them the goals they so desperately sought.
Dunsborough, were first to score through the golden boot of Marcus Lazic after a brilliant series of passes.
