Dunsborough Slayers vs. GMAS Navy
The Slayers were using a new combination of goalkeepers (Donaiya and Indiah). They were both under significant pressure from the GMAS forwards. Donaiya was unsighted on a few occasions but in one instance she advanced out of her box to challenge a would be strike, disrupting the play enough to allow defenders to clear the ball. GMAS pressed forward regularly and their strikers posed a constant threat. Melat, Ashlea and Indiah were regularly in the action defensively.
Capel Wolves vs. BSN Cougars
Capel Wolves played an undermanned BSN Cougars, it was a great game to watch and skills were used really well.
Jessica Mack put in a great effort in goals for the first half, and wing in the second half. Natasha Warchol followed in the goals coming from striker in the first half, taking some great saves.
Busselton Cougars had some great play and shots on goal.
Jack McMeekan, Corey Carroll, Jessica Mack and Emma May did excellent playing as wings and mid fielders throughout the match.
Taylor Barr, Mathew Cream, Olivia Warchol had good input in the Midfield.
Dunsborough Slayers vs. MR Glory
The Slayers travelled to Margaret River to take on the Glory. With plenty of rain late in the week the playing surface was rather squelchy. In spite of the conditions (more rain during the game) the eager spectators were treated to a very competitive match. Both teams displayed good skills despite the slippery ball by making good solo runs as well as utilising team-mates in better positions.
The Slayers goalkeepers (Baxter and Melat) did very well and were ably supported by some resolute defending from Indiah, Emily, Melat and Donaiya. Both made good saves in their own right as well. The Glory found a forward behind the defence mid-way through the first half who was able to neatly convert just inside the left goal post. As usual the Slayers defenders lifted their intensity and made greater efforts to get between the ball and the goal for the rest of the half.
Dunsborough Slayers vs. MR Power
The MR Power travelled to Dunsborough to take on the Slayers on a beautiful, clear day. It was obvious from the outset that the Slayers would be in for a tough match. The Power had a big height advantage and the Slayers would have to fill the void of Sabrina’s absence.
The required rotation in defence proved to be a revelation as the match went on. The early going was almost a blur as the Power demonstrated good skills and use of space to get the ball forward seemingly at will. The Slayers defenders were tested early and despite great efforts they were unable to cope with the speed of several Power players. Even when the Slayers worked the ball out of defence the midfielders found it hard to keep the ball moving forward as they were under constant pressure from Power midfielders.
Dunsborough Slayers vs. Dunsborough Glory
Dunsborough Slayers hosted their second derby of the season – this time against Dunsborough Glory – on a brisk morning. The Slayers were eagerly awaiting the challenge and were keen to continue the progress shown over recent weeks. They were also looking to incorporate skills they had worked on at training and were excited to be in play more since the inception of a new (4th) Dunsborough 10s team.
The game got off to a frantic start with the Glory showing the ability to get the ball up front to their dangerous forwards. The Slayers defenders were under constant pressure early on as the Glory was able to win the ball in midfield. Emily, Sabrina and Baxter worked hard in defence but were unable to deny a skilful move by Max (on the left side) who drove in a clinical strike off the left foot to the near post.
The Slayers defenders were alerted to the dangers from this point on and increased their effort with Melat keeping everything else for the rest of the half. Following a substitution change Baxter came back on at right mid-field promising to make an impact. Late in the half he got himself deep on the right side with the ball and slotted in a strong finish.
Vasse Falcons v Saint Josephs Dynamites
Vasse Falcons had a challenging match today against Saint Josephs Dynamites.Thomas Piggott had his first experience in Goals and he showed great potential, this was a managed risk by coach "Rick Wackerbath" as ordinarily he had placed Thomas in a "Striker position" Sam Parkhurst,Brady Carroll and Beau Haynes demonstrated a skill level way beyond their young age.
Bailey Arnnear was unstoppable in defence and as such recieved one of the "Best Player" awards today due to his constant pressure on the opposition.Sonny Arnold recieved the other "Best Player Award" today for his ability to read the play of the game and implement strategies to further benefit the team.Sonny showed presicion and skill with his ability to control the ball with well timed footwork.Sam Parkhurst also recieved the "Best and Fairest Award" today as donated by the "Bendigo Bank" Well done Vasse Falcons this was an awesome game.
Dunsborough Slayers vs. MR Spitfires May 29, 2010
The Slayers travelled to Margaret River to take on the Spitfires. The locals turned on the weather for us and the pitch was in great condition. With a new face in goals the Slayers set up to be very positive from the start. After winning the toss the Slayers elected to take the first kick-off. Most of the early going saw the Spitfires defence being tested. They were quick to get behind the ball and the few attempts on goal were handled confidently by their keeper.
The changes in personnel mid-way through the first half by both sides brought about a change in tide. The Spitfires began to make their own attacking runs which really tested the Slayers defenders. Dylan held his ground well as central defender – a role he’s fulfilling regularly. Will did very well in goals – his first time this season – making some good saves and releasing the ball promptly to good options.

Capel Wolves vs. GMAS Teal
Capel Wolves gave a great effort against the GMAS Teal team.
Newcomer Jack McMeekan put in a great game, Jessica Mack was very impressive in Goals. Mathew Cream, Guy Treloar and Corey Carroll had lots of touches of the ball in Defence. Isobel Barr, Rani McMillan, Olivia Warchol and Rhianna Downie played consistently well in midfield. Natasha Warchol and Emma May had a great game up front and later in midfield and defence. Hayley Connors put in a good game in the midfield also.
Thanks to GMAS for a great spirited game. Well done Capel Wolves!
Cornerstone Titans V Margaret River Raiders
By the time kick off occurred at 10:30, spectators, players, coaches & referees were drenched to the bone. This was to be no ordinary account of the ‘world game’: this was “POOL SOCCER!!”
Margaret River commenced well, driving the ball long in the wet conditions, and peppering the Cornerstone goal face. Marli Enslin, ever resolute in goals, did well to keep some of the scoring shots out; continually putting her head and heart on the line. However, some holes were appearing in the Cornerstone defence, and opposition goals were the subsequent result.
The ball was carried forward well on several occasions by Tom Godsell, Shannon Hardman, Jack Farmer and Niamh Collie, but was being driven back past them by a strong and determined Margaret River defensive line.
During the half time break, Coach Ellery delivered some home truths with a verbal spray to rival 1970s Richmond hard-nut, Tom Hafey (but without the swear words).
The Slayers travelled to Busselton for their first away game of the season. On a day mixed with rain & sunshine, the Slayers put their skills together for a great game. The Busselton Dingoes played very well even though they were one player short in the first half. Will, a Dunsborough player, played valiantly as a Dingo in the second half to round out their contingent.
There were several scoring opportunities created early in the game by the Slayers as they used the spaces well and presented themselves to their team-mates as good options. The momentum was provided from the fast moving midfield of Amber, Joel and Indiah, which opened up scoring opportunities for the forwards running ahead. Donaiya and Will both put themselves in the right places and were rewarded with successful strikes on goal. Melat played well alongside Donaiya and would have had several goals herself if not for the uprights and sensational Dingo saves. Indiah displayed her persistence and ball handling skills by winning the ball on many occasions and getting a very good goal after a through ball from Curren.
May 15, 2010
A grey morning cleared nicely for the Dunsborough Slayers third game as they hosted the Dynamites. The Dynamites proved to be a well organised group and the Slayers found it hard to make inroads. Their midfield provided good momentum forward and the Slayers defenders had lots of work to do early. Curren was working overtime in goals and made some good saves, unfortunately one save slipped from his grasp and an alert forward made the most of the 2nd chance. A few other well placed shots proved out of reach – even at full stretch.
Both goalkeepers for the Slayers did very well as the Dynamites got themselves in threatening positions on many occasions. The effort is definitely there with diving saves on display. Baxter shut out the persistent attacks of the Dynamites in the second half with some very good saves and provided positive goal kicks also.
Dunsborough Slayers vs. Dunsborough United May 8, 2010
Dunsborough Slayers (wearing bibs) played host in their first derby to Dunsborough United. It was a tough game and a good lesson for the Slayers as they adjust to the structure.
United showed their experience and the benefit of keeping a majority of the squad intact. They struck early by getting inside the Slayers defence.
United’s forwards combined well and attacked with purpose but the Slayer’s defenders worked hard all game and put pressure on the ball regularly to thwart many possible scoring chances.
Dunsborough Slayers vs. Busselton Cougars
The newly formed Dunsborough Slayers opened the new season (2010) at home on a beautiful day to the visiting Busselton Cougars. The revised rules for SSG meant most of the players were making a huge adjustment to a larger field and a larger number of players.
The Slayers comprised a mix of many continuing players from 8/U last year with some new players. Given the short time they’ve had to train together it was great to see them combining so well during the game.
The game was played in good spirits. The ability and competitiveness on each side was great to see. There were thrilling runs with the ball as players enjoyed the space available. Some of these led to goals and others resulted in good saves by the respective goalkeepers or defenders working hard to keep pressure on the ball and deny a successful shot.

The Glory fielded their full team for the first time in months, having a substitute is a great help but playing the bare number of players certainly make them fitter and it showed .
The game started at a very sedate pace with neither team looking to take the advantage, Glory did score through Sam Leigh but still there was no indication of what was about to come.
In fact it was Busselton that looked the more likely to score at this stage. Zac Waterhouse was once again the rock of Gibraltar in central defence and switched the play when need be.
Margaret River Munchers 6 v GMAS 1
The Margaret River 9 and under Munchers consolidated their reputation with another dominant display over GMAS at Busselton on the weekend. The Munchers hit the ground running applying immediate goal pressure on GMAS and went into the half time break with 4 goals to 1 advantage. This resulted from some excellent foot skills and team work from Zeke and Jaz.
Jasmina’s penetrating throw-ins caught the opposition off guard and put the Munchers on the front foot. Sam and Hudson both went on to score great goals getting passed the GMAS defence to confidently find the back of the net. Ably assisted by Pascoe in defence, Nick did some good work keeping the Munchers’ goals executing an athletic save from a high ball to keep GMAS to just the 1 goal to the half.
