Bsn Redbacks 2 V Dunsborough 1
Busselton Redbacks hosted Dunsborough at Barnard Park on Saturday and welcomed them with a massive downpour.
Despite the atrocious weather, Dunsborough started the match well, with a couple of forward moves early on. Good work by Redbacks defenders and substitute goalie Kyron Pallett meant no score until Busselton went forward in the 8th minute down the right wing, and Jesse Deas steered home a fine goal from the 6 yard corner.
Busselton seemed to control the play for the next few minutes with Dunsborough defending well. In the 13th minute Redbacks attacked again along the wing via Jesse again, then a fine cross to Jacob McElroy for the finish.
GMAS United 1 v Vasse Ravens 3
Another cold Saturday morning, down at Barnard Park, but there was something special about this one with three of our players having birthdays in the week around it.
We were determined…With memories of our last meeting with Vasse, in our minds, there was no way we were going to let that happen again.
After training on Thursday, there was something different about GMAS United, they had started to really gel as a team, started to live up to their name…
This played out well on the field, with loads of talking, calling and encouragement between the players.
Vasse Ravens 3 v GMAS United 1
It was a bleak and wintery Saturday morning when the Vasse under 13 teens took on GMAS United at Barnard Park, Busselton. The sky was black the wind was chilling to the bone and the rain an ever ending thereat. None of this stood in the way of an entertaining and competitive game from both teams.
Vasse came out determined to build on their good form, and went straight on the attack. GMAS stood their ground and did not make it easy for the opposing team. However the continuous attack from Vasse soon paid off with a well constructed goal putting Vasse a goal in front. GMAS came back at Vasse to try and even the score but the Vasse defense was impenetrable.
Vasse Magpies 1 VS GMAS Fury 3 Under 13’s Championship League
There was a furious start to this game with determined defending on both sides. The ball seemed to live up at the GMAS goal for most of the first half with some amazing mud diving defence by Trevor Bardot. It was girl on girl at one point with GMAS Katrina and Georgia skilling around fleet foot Kaylee Brown from Vasse. Ashleigh Vanderlist pressed in on goal defence backing up Trevor Bardot with forward thinking as usual.
Caidyn Price scored the second goal for GMAS, Trevor prevented a third five minutes later. Caidyn showed fine form throughout the game, a strong and determined player. Harley Burles and Mitchell Gibbons scored the other two for GMAS Heath Feutrill scored the Vasse goal in a hurtle down the field and a clear run to goal, a magnificent moment.
An exciting game well won and well defended.
Vasse un13‘s came of age on Saturday against Dunsborough side who never gave up. This game started with a well worked goal by Vasse they seemed to have the momentum in the early stage of the game. Dunsborough equalized with a well configured frontal attack. This had both teams battling it out with chances at either side.
The next team to score was Vasse to break the deadlock. At this point the game was at 2-1 and Vasse scored again before half time. Both teams went into the break with Vasse scoring a couple more goals. The second half commenced with Dunsborough putting plenty of pressure on Vasse to score a terrific goal. It looked as if Dunsborough could take advantage of the downhill slope of the field. The pressure continued for almost 10 minutes before Vasse restructured their counter attacks with great passing and speed to go on a scoring rampage and taking out a well deserved win.
The 10-3 score line does not fully interoperate how close the game was. It was a game of taking your chances and fighting until the last whistle. This was a well deserved win by Vasse and one of the best team performances so far in the season.
The Wolves welcomed St Joes MacKillop to Capel on what was a cool cloudy morning. Capel started the match with only 10 players on the field but started the brighter of the two teams. The dew on the field made the ball hard to control and the first half was full of errors from both teams who struggled with the wet ball. Neither team really asserted themselves during the first half but Capel went into half time 1-0 up after striker Matt Hobic-Hall scored with a shot that the St Joes keeper let slip through his hands.
The Half Time Manager talk seemed to inspire Capel in the second half as it quickly became 3-0 as Matt-Hobic Hall grabbed another 2 for his hattrick latching on to through balls before finishing for both goals. St Joes went in search of a reply but the Capel defence stood firm and then exploited the gaps in the St Joes Defence as Striker Bailey Donovan and Winger Jake Flood took the final scoreline to 5-0 a result which sees the Wolves move up into 4th position on the ladder.
Best Player went to Winger Tyler Woolcock who's constant ball pressure and positioning was a highlight
Busso v Margs. The mere mention of this clash would bring a snarl and a smile to the faces of any players who value the virtues of what such rivalries can produce in a human at even this tender age.
The Redbacks had not conceded a point this season and the Tigers have been quietly going about their business as each week passes remembering what our first round loss felt like.
A physically dominant Busselton side was matched by the Tigers who were well coached by Paul Harney to play with the right amount of confidence and aggression to match their opponents. With our more decorated players in Josh Brown, Brendan Clark, Sola Takahashi-Curt and twins Liam and Riley Demunari leading by example it wasn’t long before the rest of the team settled into a very mature and calm game plan.
St Josephs MacKillop Stingers (11) v Dunsborough Raiders (1)
St Joseph’s MacKillop Stingers came up against the Dunsborough Raiders team on Saturday and Dunsborough’s start defied the ladder positions as they put great pressure on the SJM players. Dunsborough opened the scoring within 5 minutes and SJM were on the back foot. The SJM defence were under continual pressure but their makeshift defensive line held together and repelled several promising fast breaks from Dunsborough.
St Joes started to settle with Spike Woods working well with Harry Papalia and Eddie Anderle up forward. Callum Thomas seemed to step up in his defensive role and didn’t once take a backward step to meet the ball head on at every occasion. Goals to Harry (2) and Sam Guthridge from a well set up indirect free kick, allowed SJM to turn at the half, 3 – 1 up. While happy with the lead, it actually flattered the SJM team given that Dunsborough seemed the more desperate team in the first half.

Dunsborough 3 v Vasse 1
On Saturday Dunsborough faced their rival of many years, Vasse. Even though the new look split competition has meant teams were changed, the Daredevils knew they could not afford to take Vasse lightly on their home ground. They always raise for Dunsborough, and today proved to me no exception.
Dunsborough started strongly making a number of forays into the Vasse defence, only to be met with stiff and determined resistance from the Vass defenders. They held up strong and managed to cramp the Daredevils play.
Newcomer Caleb Fawlkner was brilliant in midfield and his speed and determination made him look like a player who has been playing for years rather than weeks. The Capel Wolves travelled to Busselton to take on Margret River hoping for a win to keep in touch with the top 4. The first half started as quite an even affair with end to end action as neither team really got control of the game. Capel almost took the lead in the first 10 minutes as Captain Hamish McMeekan rattled the upright after some nice link up play through midfield. Margret River were getting some good run down the right hand flank but the Capel defence restricted them to long range shots which rarely troubled keeper Jamie-Oakes Evans. It looked as if the first half would end in a stalemate but just before half-time Capel striker Bailey Donovan scored with an Audacious backheel volley at the front post which left Margret River stunned.
The 2nd half was a more one sided story as a few positional changes saw Capel control the game in the midfield and it was 2-0 soon as Matt Hobic-Hall latched onto a through ball and nipped it past the on rushing keeper. Hobic- Hall added a second with a great header after a corner in to seal the game. Before sweeper Duncan Overton moved into midfield to grab himself a goal with a fine solo effort which left the final score at 4-0 in favor of Capel.
Busselton Angels 9 v Mac Killop St Joes 0
The first half of Saturdays Game saw the Angels take a 2-0 lead, with Baxter Thew scoring both. A pregame target of 6 goals or higher they had a task ahead of them and the second half of the game was the teams shining moment Repositioning of players brought sisters Ariana and Siobhan to the wings and it paid off with Siobhan scoring a beautiful goal into the top pocket and Ariana running hard and fast on the right wing scoring 3 in succession then a first goal of the season to Annika Toohey, followed by another 2 powerful goals to Ariana.
A final score of 9-0 has the Angels confident of their abilities on the pitch now. Angel of the Day award went to Siobhan Longmore for her first half defensive skills and second half power on the wing. Notable mention must go to Tayla Comfort in defence who stood strong and proved to be undefeatable.
Vasse 1 v Dunsborough 3
The game began with Vasse defenders keeping the score nil in spite of strong pressure from Dunsborough to keep the ball close down their end. Vasse goalie Trevor Bardot had his work cut out for him and rose to the occasion. Dunsborough lads Bini Cohen and Marcus Lazic kicked well deserved goals in the first half.
A strong tussle in the second half till Harry Shingles scored for Vasse on a free kick. A couple of great saves by Heath Feutrill kept the Duns tally at 2 for a bit longer. Marcus Lazic kicked a second goal bringing the total to 3 for Dunsborough. Special mention to (D) Tom Brown for a consistent fight, (V) Kaylee Brown who shone and (V) Ashleigh Vanderlist for pressure and tactical thinking, saving more than a few goals.
Dunsborough 6 V Margaret River 2
Dunsborough Daredevils travelled to Margaret River for what they knew would be a tough encounter with their long time rivals, the Margaret River Gladiators.
The game started in spectacular fashion for Dunsborough with a goal in the opening ten seconds from a cheeky interception at kick off. While this thrilled the Daredevils, they knew not to under estimate the Gladiators because they would be back – and harder than before.
This turned out to be true with the Gladiators throwing everything they could at Dunsborough at all parts of the field. Their defence held strong and repelled the Daredevils’ attacks and quickly produced great counter attacks that were only stopped in the last lines of defence.
If not for solid goalkeeping from Tom Brown and tough, gritty defence by Tom Widlake, Margaret River would have scored on a number of occasions. But it was not to be and Dunsborough managed a second goal midway through the half.
The Capel Wolves produced a master class in attacking football as they claimed their 2nd win of the season with a thumping of Cornerstone. After last weeks unlucky and hard fought 1-0 loss at the hands of ladder leaders Busselton United Devils, the Wolves immediately took control of the game as Captain Hamish McMeekan rifled in a great half volley from the edge of the box early.
The scoring didn’t stop there as Matt Hobic-Hall scored a quick fire hattrick and Jake Warchol added a 5th to leave the Wolves 5-0 up at half time against their younger and inexperienced opponents.
Despite numerous positional changes for the 2nd half the wolves continued their rampage as Duncan Overton grabbed a 2nd half brace, McMeekan grabbed another 2 for his hattrick, Jake Flood and a unfortunate own goal left the final score at 11-0
Magpies began the game anticipating a tough time and this was confirmed in the first five minutes with Angels first score. From there it was strong defence all the way with Magpies goalie Trevor Bardot fiercely thwarting over ten potential scores. Ashleigh Vanderlist played like a heavyweight and scored two to Magpies, losing one to an offside. It was an injury prone game with a bit of wound licking of rearranged elbows, heads and shoulders from spekky collisions and rolls but players were keen to get back out there and fight to the end. Baxter Thew and Indiana Lysaght fought hard for every inch and the end result tells the story.
