Match Reports - Under 8

Saturday 20th June saw the 6 and Under Margaret River Bumble Bees at home taking on the Vasse Hawks. Watching the Hawks warming up it was evident immediately that the Bees would be pushed and would have to be at their best to come away winners. A titanic struggle ensued with both teams battling not just each other but the perfect storm including an icy deluge of hail.

All players and parents deserve credit for soldiering on in the inclement conditions. Special mention goes to Noah ‘x-files’ Mulder who thrived in the wet, tackling relentlessly, showing great second and third efforts, literally forcing the ball forward while at times totally outnumbered by the opposition. Noah deservedly picks up the ‘player of the week’ award.

Bryce Bennett’s mauling style of play was suited to the wet weather and the development and strength of Bryce’s right boot cleared the Bees out of trouble on many occasions. Congratulations to Bryce for winning the coach’s ‘encouragement award’ for round 7.

Anj ‘kung fu’ Kupfer-Hollis was irrepressible, tackling, dribbling, passing, never giving up the contest and scoring some excellent high pressure goals to keep the Bees in the game at times.

However, overall it was the team effort that brought about the final result, with Quinn ‘steam train’ Cargill Fletcher, Oscar ‘stretch’ Armstrong, Evie Thom, Lilly McLarty, Hugo ‘boss’ Smith, Joe Sharpe and Bryce ‘smiling assassin’ Junk-Gibson all playing integral roles in the Bees hard fought win.

The Hawks played an impressive brand of soccer, tackled hard and put plenty of pressure on the Bees defence. They are an excellent young side and the Bees look forward to future meetings with the Hawks on the field.

Next week sees the Bees take on Cornerstone in Busselton before a well earned rest for the school holidays.
