Vasse Falcons played a committed strategic game for such a young side today. Coach Rick Wackerbath kept them focussed and guided throughout the match, urging them to achieve and driving them to use the ball effectively. The weather was wet and wild and so was the spirit and determination shown by this young team.

Thomas Piggott received Best Player for his quick thinking nimble goal along with Sam Parkhurst for his amazing footwork and constant passion for the game. Jacob Pool excels in the goalie position with his amazing effort in being able to stop a well delivered goal by Dunsborough Glory. Jacob was able to prevent the ball hitting the back of the net, just managing to flick the ball over the cross bar with his fingertips from a great fully outstretched leap skyward. A sensational save.

Dunsborough Glory gave us an awesome run for our money playing a great game, and we can’t wait for the next time we meet. The game was played in great sportsmanship from both sides.

YL Girls: Margaret River Jedis (0) v Margaret River Breakers (1)

The derby started off strong for the Jedis with several swift attacks into the forward line  from Asha Dilkes-Hoffman, Audrey Tweddell, Paris Bedford and Evie Koster.

However the Breakers defence stood strong and although most of the play in the first half was in the Jedis forward half they were not able to capitalise on any attempts at goal. In the 21st minute a corner for the Breakers resulted in a goal to Sharni Giles

Knockout Cup Final: MR Hotshots 2 d Vasse Ravens 2
On penalties 2-1

JK Rowling couldn’t have scripted a more exciting climax to the end of the season than what occurred at Churchill Park for the final of the Youth League Girls Knockout Cup. Chasing their second trophy of the season the Hotshots had to overcome a never say die Ravens side in a penalty shootout after extra time.

MR Hotshots 2 d Busselton 2 - On penalties 3-0

There’s nothing more exciting in football than a penalty shootout, or more heart attack inducing! That’s what we got in the first semi-final of the cup knockout game between The MR Hotshots and Busselton. Busselton have given the Hotshots a pretty good run for their money this year in the league games and this week they actually made the running.

MR Hotshots 6 d Dunsborough 3

For the fourth week in a row the Hotshots girls were not daunted by inferior numbers and were victorious in a stunning display of precision football. With 9 players on the field the Hotshots knew that they had to dominate possession and use the ball smartly to overcome the disadvantage. They did that and more as they controlled the ball right from the last line through the midfield and into attack.

MR Hotshots 12 d MR Steelers 2

Saturday’s local derby between the Hotshots and their younger sisters the Steelers; who are made up of mainly Year 8 players, was a great game that was played in a friendly spirit. Although the Hotshots won the match by a fair margin they were made to earn it and sometimes were shown a thing or two by the ever improving Steelers.

MR Hotshots 5 d Busselton 0

After an extended warm up and tactical discussion lasting all of 30 seconds I was confident that the team would hit the ground running (Not!) But even though these girls looked like they had just come from a slumber party they instantly clicked into gear when they stepped onto the field.

MR Hotshots 9 d MR Steelers 0

After last week's tough encounter the Hotshots were determined not to take anything for granted and were asked to work hard on some tactical shortcomings that were apparent against Dunsborough. Lisa Baddock playing in front of the 3 defenders made all the difference for us as she translated whiteboard theory into on ground results to rebound the ball with great skill.

MR Hotshots 4 d Busselton 1

The Hotshots bench resembled an emergency ward on the weekend as a battle of attrition was eventually won 4-1on the soggy Margaret River turf. In the first half our defence and movement forward was tested by the determination of the opposition. Casey Wood and Payton Evans as central defenders defused many attacks, and with their long penetrating kicks were an attacking force. Michaela Parrott in goals turned on a great exhibition, attacking the ball and getting off her line to pull off some terrific saves.

Why can’t we play a summer sport? I’m sure from the comments of the girls that I wasn’t the only one thinking this. A 40 knot wind across the pitch and squalls sure made for a testing game. With the ball constantly being blown to one side of the ground it was stressed that to play in a positive manner we would have to play technical football and switch to the other side of the park to attack.

MR Hotshots 2 d Vasse Ravens 1

Often it’s a case of hanging on, working hard and persisting to turn the game your way. And that is exactly what the Hotshots did on Saturday against the Vasse Ravens. As always Vasse came out firing and put us under immense pressure; some great clearing off the line by Michaela Parrott, Lisa Baddock and Siobhan Rooney saved us on several occasions until we settled down and started playing some possession football. Tash Rigby and Jordan Bernhardt almost have a sixth sense when playing together and their understanding and tactical play is a joy to watch. In an example of the way we want to play, Jordan released Tash several times down the right; unfortunately no one could latch onto Tash’s crosses into the box. Vasse also had their chances and took advantage of a mistake to drill one into the back of the net. The score line stayed at 1-0 until half time.

MR Hotshots 7 d MR Breakers 1

Our first taste of winter football on the weekend tested the players with a wet skidding ball and rain. The Breakers also provided a real test coming in with confidence from a first up win last week. A very even first half saw both teams threatening the goals.  Jordan Bernhardt was controlling the ball through the middle and putting some great balls behind the defence for Tash Rigby to run onto.
